Certificate attestation alone can take longer than students expect if they start it late. It typically needs to sit in a Norwegian bank account or your institution’s dedicated deposit account rather than a Bangladeshi account, since UDI wants to see that the money is genuinely accessible once you arrive.

Educational certificates issued in Bangladesh generally need to be verified and attested before they’re accepted for use abroad. The standard chain runs through your issuing Board or University, then the relevant Ministry (Education, for most academic certificates), and finally the Consular Section of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka. This process has multiple steps, and each one depends on the last, so it isn’t something you can compress into a few days if an office is backed up.
Whether full MOFA attestation is required for your specific application depends on what your Norwegian institution and the visa checklist generated through the UDI portal actually ask for. Some institutions accept notarized copies without the full government attestation chain. Don’t assume either way. Check your personalized UDI checklist and your institution’s own document requirements, and if attestation is needed, start it the same week you accept your admission offer, not after.

A Schengen visitor’s visa (for a short trip under 90 days) asks for a much lighter document set: travel itinerary, travel insurance, and proof of purpose of visit, without the academic or long-term financial documentation a study permit requires. If you’re applying for a study permit, don’t rely on a Schengen visa checklist, since the two categories are assessed under completely different rules and by different processing tracks, even though both currently go through the same VFS centre in Dhaka.
