To study in Norway from Bangladesh, you need an admission offer from a Norwegian university, proof of at least NOK 166,859 for one academic year, and a study permit from the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI). You apply online, then hand in your documents at the VFS Global centre in Dhaka for the Royal Danish Embassy. Non-EU students pay tuition, but since 1 August 2026 each university sets its own fee.

For one year in Norway, a Bangladeshi student must show UDI at least NOK 166,859 (about ৳21.4 lakh) for living costs, plus pay tuition, which in 2026/27 ranges from about NOK 50,000 at universities that cut fees to over NOK 200,000 at NTNU and the University of Bergen. Most programmes start in August, and many universities close applications for non-EU students around 1 December of the year before.

For a master's degree, universities such as the University of Bergen normally ask for a four-year bachelor's degree with about 1.5 years in a relevant subject and IELTS 6.5. You then need an admission letter, proof of funds and housing for the UDI study permit.

Cost of living
Rent is the biggest monthly cost for students in Norway. Student housing run by the student welfare organisations costs from about NOK 3,700 to 8,800 a month in Oslo and Bergen, and around NOK 5,500 a month including utilities in Trondheim. Against Norway's official student estimate of NOK 15,488 a month, that leaves roughly NOK 6,800 to 11,800 for food, transport and everything else.

Intake 2027
Norwegian universities have one main intake, in August. For an August 2027 start, students from outside the EU/EEA apply in autumn 2026: OsloMet closes on 1 November, UiT on 15 November, and the University of Bergen, NTNU, NMBU and the University of Stavanger around 1 December. Results usually come between late February and April.

UiT says applicants from outside the EU/EEA must upload a complete degree diploma by the deadline and does not accept provisional certificates. Check this rule at every university before you apply.
At most universities the application and all documents close on the same day. A missing transcript means a rejected application.
Missing the autumn deadline usually means waiting a full year. Start preparing IELTS and documents by September.

The University of Oslo is Norway's highest-ranked university (131st in the QS World University Rankings 2027), followed by NTNU and the University of Bergen. For Bangladeshi students on a tighter budget, the University of Stavanger, OsloMet and UiT are worth a close look: several cut their tuition for 2026/27.

Application process
Choose your programme, apply to the university online before its deadline, accept your offer, and arrange tuition, proof of funds and housing. Then apply for the study permit on the UDI portal, hand in your documents at VFS Global in Dhaka for the Royal Danish Embassy, and after you land in Norway, meet the police within seven days to get your residence card.

Apply through each university's own portal and upload transcripts, certificates, passport, English test, CV and motivation letter before the deadline.

Scholarships
The Norwegian government offers no individual scholarships to international degree students, and the old Quota Scheme has been discontinued. The real options for Bangladeshi students are Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters scholarships (Norwegian universities take part in 16 programmes), scholarships or fee waivers at some universities, and paid PhD positions, which are salaried jobs in Norway.

Ask a counsellorNo. Since 2023, students from outside the EU/EEA pay tuition at Norwegian public universities. From 1 August 2026 each university sets its own fee, and several, such as the University of Stavanger and Nord University, cut fees to about NOK 60,000 to 85,000 a year for 2026/27.
