If you’ve been admitted to a Norwegian university and started looking for “VFS Norway appointment Dhaka,” you’ve probably noticed something confusing: the official booking portal doesn’t say Norway anywhere on it. It says Denmark. That’s not a mistake, and it doesn’t mean you’re on the wrong site. It trips up almost every first-time applicant, so let’s clear it up before anything else.
At Study Norway BD, we walk Bangladeshi students through this exact appointment process as part of preparing their study permit applications, so this guide covers what actually happens at each step, not just the generic version.
Norway does not run a Norway-branded visa application centre in Bangladesh. Instead, the Royal Danish Embassy in Dhaka represents Norway for residence permits, including work, family immigration, and study permits. Visitor visas work the same way.
This means when you go to book your appointment, the portal is filed under Denmark’s country listing: visa.vfsglobal.com/bgd/en/dnk. The “dnk” in that URL is Denmark’s country code, not a typo or a redirect error. Your application still goes to Norwegian immigration authorities. The Danish Embassy and VFS are simply the receiving point in Dhaka.
This arrangement is fairly common for smaller diplomatic missions and isn’t unique to Norway. Several other countries route Bangladesh applications through a neighbouring embassy’s visa centre. Once you know to expect it, the rest of the booking process is straightforward.
Before booking, make sure you’re applying for the right thing:
If you already have your university admission letter in hand, you’re on the study permit track.
You cannot book a VFS appointment as your first step. The sequence matters:
Only after your online application is registered and the fee is paid should you book your VFS slot. If you’d rather have someone check your documents and portal application before this stage, this is where Study Norway BD’s application support service comes in. It’s built specifically to catch the errors that cause appointment or processing delays later.
Book only once your documents are actually ready. An early slot with an incomplete file just means a wasted appointment and a rebooking delay.
You’ll also give biometrics (fingerprints and photo) in person. This cannot be done in advance or by a representative.

Once your documents and biometrics are submitted at the VAC, your file is forwarded to the Danish Embassy and then to UDI in Norway for a decision. Processing after this point can take considerably longer than the appointment itself, and timelines vary by season and case complexity. We’ve broken down realistic benchmarks and what affects them in our Norway student visa processing time guide for Bangladeshi applicants.
You’ll be notified by email, SMS, or phone once a decision is made. If approved, a visa sticker is placed in your passport, and you’ll be told when and where to collect it.
No. Norway’s residence permit applications in Bangladesh are handled through the VFS Global centre for the Danish Embassy, since the Danish Embassy in Dhaka represents Norway for this purpose.
The Royal Danish Embassy in Dhaka receives and forwards Norway residence permit applications, including study permits. The final decision is made by UDI in Norway.
Complete your application and fee payment on the UDI Application Portal first, then book your biometrics/document submission slot through the VFS Global Denmark-Bangladesh portal, selecting the residence permit category.
Your passport, the UDI-generated checklist and cover letter, admission letter, proof of funds, tuition documentation, and a passport photo. Exact requirements come from your personalised UDI checklist.
It varies by case and season; see our dedicated processing time guide for realistic benchmarks.
Biometrics generally require your personal presence. Document submission on your behalf may be possible in limited circumstances. Confirm with the VAC before assuming this is an option.
